New boss

Suggested by Abbyyea

Xul'Kari, the Void Sentinel.

When you finished The Fourth Depth, the null lost the page you took back. It forged a keeper for where that page was: a hollow suit of ranger's armour with nothing written inside it.

It keeps the last page from being read.

The fight.

Every move marks the floor with a countdown, and a boss panel shows Xul'Kari's health, the phase and what to do now.

Phase 1 · full health to half

The Bow

  • It shoots. Pray Protect from Missiles.
  • Its shell turns aside close blows. Stand 3 or more tiles away.
  • When the floor cracks, step off the marked ground. Torn floor keeps hurting until it heals.
  • On a hollow arrow, switch to Protect from Magic, then back.
  • Void weapons get no bonus while the shell holds.

You get a few seconds to eat and switch prayers while it draws a greatsword.

Phase 2 · half to one fifth

The Blade

  • The cracked shell turns aside attacks from range. Stand about 2 tiles away.
  • Too far, and it fires void blasts. Protect from Magic stops them.
  • When it reaches for you, step out of the marked ground or be pulled into melee.
  • Caught? Pray Paralyze Monster. It halves the blade and stops Xul'Kari healing itself from your blood. Walk away after its third swing.
  • Void weapons now hit with their full bonus.

Ranged equipment

Ranged Aim and Power.

Ranged Aim is accuracy. Ranged Power is damage. Your equipment now shows these separately from melee Aim and Power.

  • Weapons give Aim; ammunition gives Power. Worn gear adds bonuses to those totals. Thrown weapons supply both.
  • Power is not your max hit. Your Ranged level, prayers and other effects also count when damage is worked out.
  • See it in Stats. Select the ranged row for your totals and the weapon, ammunition and worn bonuses being counted, or Effects for set bonuses. Use Compare ranged on inventory equipment, or Examine on ammunition, to preview a change without equipping it or using anything.

The details explain missing or incompatible ammunition, too. A subtotal does not mean you can fire. Ammunition comparisons preview the selected ammo; they don't change which ammo you actually use.

The Stats panel shows Ranged Aim 51 and Power 42, with an Effects button beside the totals.

Ranged details show a Magic Longbow and Rune Arrows: Aim 40 weapon plus 11 gear equals 51; Power 40 ammo plus 2 gear equals 42.

Weapon and ammunition pairs

These examples show the weapon's Aim and the ammunition's Power, before worn bonuses. Where two bows share a row, Aim reads shortbow / longbow.

Hit harder with every piece

Alongside the set's +7 Ranged Aim, each piece adds to your ranged damage bonus against monsters, including Slayer tasks and the Undercrypt. This affects the damage roll, not the Power number shown in Stats; rounding can leave a max hit unchanged.

Terminal Velocity

The full set adds another 5 percentage points of damage bonus against monsters when you shoot from your weapon's full range: 4 tiles for shortbows and crossbows, 5 for longbows. That's +20% for the set at full reach.

  • Stacks with the Void Shortbow. The set adds on top of its bonus against void monsters.
  • The damage bonuses have no effect in PvP. Each piece's Aim still counts.
  • Where it comes from: Xul'Kari, 1 in 128 for each piece, and the Void Chest, 1 in 324 for each piece.

The full-set bonus

Wear a body, chaps and vambraces together for +2%, +3%, +4% or +5% ranged accuracy against monsters. The lowest colour you wear counts. This extra set bonus has no effect in PvP; each piece's Aim still counts. Full dragonhide and full Void Ranger use the same body and leg slots, but you can wear a Void Ranger coif with full dragonhide.

Make your own

  1. Hunt dragons

Every adult green, blue, red and black dragon drops a hide every kill. The King Black Dragon drops two; baby dragons drop none. New Green Dragons live on Crandor's surface, after Dragon Slayer.

  2. Tan the hides

The tanner in Al Kharid tans each hide for 20 coins.

  3. Craft

Use a needle and thread. Vambraces take 1 leather, chaps 2 and a body 3.

Separate Ranged range and Magic range settings show your weapon or spell's attack distance around your character. Both are on by default; either can be switched off and stays off.

The solid gold line follows your bow, crossbow or thrown weapon. The blue dashed line follows your selected spell, or your sceptre's autocast spell. Being in range doesn't guarantee a clear shot.

A clearer Garbage Collector

Inspect the Garbage Collector in Lumbridge to open a new panel. It shows how much has been recycled toward the community goal, how much is left, the Double XP reward and how long it has left, and when the goal next resets.

It also makes clear that donating destroys your items: their value becomes community credit, and no coins are paid.

Bug fixes and improvements.

Combat and activities

  • Ironmen can keep attacking Wormbrain and other unreachable NPCs with arrows or spells without being locked out.
  • Resting your mount at a stable no longer opens the sleep screen or turns off XP gain.
  • Your Slayer cape shows both task choices after reconnecting.
  • Fishing spots are easier to click, including the water between the rings.
  • Dragon harpoon Fury avoids nearly finished batches, refunds interrupted activations that catch nothing, and reports its catch.
  • Flats switches incomplete 2v2 fields to 1v1 with byes so everyone can play.
  • Void Royale keeps running after countdown departures while at least two players remain.
  • Mage Battles gives byes for odd fields instead of cancelling.
  • Ironman characters no longer receive join prompts for shared events they cannot enter.
  • Thieving and Max capes now respect Ironman coin ownership, even after another player's drops become visible to everyone.
  • Thieving and Max capes collect coins from your own monster kills within 8 tiles, including cannon kills, when your inventory has room. Nearby collection excludes the Wilderness, PvP areas, hosted events and arenas; collecting coins underfoot keeps its existing rules.
  • When your Slayer task has several available teleport destinations, you can choose where to go. The cost stays at 10 Slayer points, with the same cooldown.

Clearer information and fewer repeat clicks

  • ::myxp shows how much time remains on your subscription, Skill card and Combat card.
  • Logging in with experience frozen shows a reminder and explains how to enable it.
  • ::con info and the Steward tell you where your home is and how to return.
  • Construction guides explain the limited supply of homes and where to check current availability.
  • Auction notices tell you to collect from the Void Auctioneer in Edgeville.
  • Clue Crackers explain Perform, give feedback for wrong acts or spots, and clearly identify Baraek in Varrock.
  • Aggie makes yellow and blue dyes in batches, and Wyson sells larger quantities of woad leaves.
  • The Falador wall handholds are easier to click, without selecting through walls or nearby objects.

Desktop, web and Android

  • Opening the world map in the Slayer crypts no longer freezes the desktop client when memory is tight.
  • Desktop retries interrupted game-data downloads and explains failures instead of incorrectly asking you to update.
  • Xul'Kari's instructions stay clear of phone controls, and update notices no longer cover boss panels.
  • Android's game settings include separate Music and Ambience controls, with your choices saved.
  • XP drops and hover text stay clear of Xul'Kari's boss panel on Android.
  • Android inventory taps and long presses no longer get intercepted by the floating vitals display.
  • On touch browsers, inventory menu options work beyond the panel edge, and chat no longer intercepts Stats controls.
  • The settings menu now uses consistent categories and labels on desktop, in the browser and in the Android app, with touch-friendly controls on phones. It only shows supported options, and the Android app keeps its device controls. Ambience starts off unless you've already saved a choice.

Accounts and collections

  • Sign-up explains when an email provider is unsupported and lists accepted providers.
  • Google Play accounts can sign in to the website with their original sign-up username and add a verified recovery email.
  • Name Change cards let you change your name's capitalization.
  • Previously earned Void Capes receive Collection Log credit when you log in.

Other changes.

  • The Void Chest can now drop the three Void Ranger pieces.
  • The Collection Log has the three pieces.
  • The ::boss records board now includes Xul'Kari.

About these patch notes

Xul'Kari, the Void Ranger set, dragonhide armour, the new sounds and the other changes described here are now available.

Screenshots come from local test worlds. A few fight screenshots were taken earlier in testing, before Xul'Kari's black boots and the chamber's stone column were added.
